Independence Day

They say that no mans an island. That's becoming harder to believe these days. America has begun a fast descent away from being "United". I wonder if this is what Plato see happen to his Rome? Good logic has seemed to hide her beautiful face from us. Logic can not coexist with extremism, nor does it do any good in individuality. Perhaps we have finally left the "Age of Reason". Perhaps this is the dawn of the age of "Me".
For years now, capitalist's have been whispering in our ears. " You need this", "you deserve that", all to lure us to line their pockets and feed their greed. They have fed America's selfishness so well, that we have regressed to mere dogs begging for the next helping of left overs.
The politicians have stopped trying to win our hearts. Their new goal is to spawn hate and dissension between us. They pit us against each other. They have found hate and fear a better motivator than love. And they do it all for a pay check. Conviction is lost in this once great country. The pursuit of happiness has left us cold and poor.
We all have allowed it. Hell we embraced it! Why not? Its so easy to just worry about me and my needs. Its easy to be told that you deserve it. We all want to be kings don't we? What about now? Does your Island feel good now?
We have abandoned all honer, for the sake of individuality. Sacred oaths of marriage are now only fleeting moments. We use divorce as a threat to get what we want from the person we are suppose to love the most. Homes are being broken, kids are missing the support of to parents. Why? Because someone's need are not met, someone's feelings are hurt? SELFISHNESS! Does no ones word mean nothing any more? Have vows been reduced to mere poetry.
Here I sit in the aftermath, of the destruction that greed and selfishness has rot. The future of my beautiful family in uncertain. Fear is as prevalent as thirst in my house. But I stand on my choice to love, to put others before my self. If I starve due to caring to much then shame on you, and shame to this country.
